Writing a report makes you be more competent. However, it's important to know that it's not such that easy. Before writing a report, I personally would recommend you to make it clear what you truly need to know from the patient.Though, the patient has been through the operation quite well and he/she is now preparing going home. You can somehow learn from this case. Although you cannot examine the patient preoperatively or all murmurs are gone, you still can learn from the case. Remember, for medical students, every little thing is important. Those small things come together and help you in the future.
Read something before working. If you don't read anything just heard from someone talked about it and you start writing down, you'll miss the most important part! Writing a report is reforming your habits. Because in the real word, most of the times we don't really know what we are facing. So research some, organize your idea and write down with your own way.
Your job is showing teachers about what you understand. It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong. A real teacher will correct your misunderstanding or give you compliment or reassure your perception.
Please help your teachers by not writing things that are unrelevant. They are boring! You know that....Babinski's sign is not important in the issue of cyanosis or hemoptysis or whether or not tympanic membrane looks inflammed ischemic heart diseased patient need his heart revascularized.
